Today's Soups and Muffins

Good Morning!

It is another lovely morning here at the Baldpate Inn, having the joys of the speckled Aspens without the especially cold weather is quite a pleasure!

If you have a chance to make it to our dining room today we are experimenting with a new muffin today, a cherry-bran muffin to be exact, and if you are an early bird joining us for lunch we would love to share it with you.  But don't worry, if you miss this batch, we are ready with fresh batches of our classic All Bran and Onion Garlic muffins to accompany your meal today.  Our soups today are the Broccoli Cheese and Red Chili.  And don't forget about our wonderful homemade pies!  Please call for reservations at 970-586-5397.

On another note, as many of you know last night was our final installation of our Summer Enchanted Evenings lecture series.  We would like to thank all the guests who have taken part in this event throughout the summer, and a special thank you to the guests who attended last night.

Have a great day, we hope to see you soon.

Summer Enchanted Evenings

Good Morning Everyone!

It's definitely hard to believe that we're at the end of September; the weather has made it feel more like early August.  Last year at this time we had snow up here at the Baldpate Inn, today we're expecting temperatures in the mid 70's.  The weather has been absolutely gorgeous the past few days.  The clear blue skies contrasted with the golden aspen leaves has certainly created a beautiful scene in the Estes Valley.

Our final Summer Enchanted Evening program for the 2010 season will be held tonight at 7:00 PM in our library.  Tonight's discussion will focus on a time-capsule that was discovered in 1960, but has since been lost.  Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Soups of the Day: Cowboy Buffalo Stew and Pumpkin Curry

Muffins of the Day: Blueberry and Zucchini Dill

Reservations are always recommended, even as we move into the later stages of our season.  We have been quite busy the past several days so give us a call or visit our website for reservations.

Take care,

Tasty Tuesday!

Morning everyone,
Hopefully everyone had a great start to their week yesterday!  We would love for you to come join us for lunch or dinner today.  We are serving Red Chili and Garden Vegetable soup along with Oatmeal Blueberry and Trail Mix muffins.  We will also have our famous Cornbread and delicious Honey Wheat Bread.  Top off the meal with some yummy homemade pie!

We invite everyone to attend our Summer Enchanted Evening tomorrow night September 29, 2010
In 1960, Estes Park recovered a tin box built into the foundation of a 1908 home behind on Moraine Avenue, just south of the Park Theatre.  The contents of this box included two issues of Estes Park's first newspaper, as well as an accurately-dated photograph of the early downtown business district.  This "time capsule" has subsequently become lost, or is at least has become so well misplaced that no current Estes Park residents or institutions can locate it.  Tonight's program includes details of the search for the missing 1908 time capsule, as well as providing an update on an EPHRP-sponsored project to recreate a modern time capsule with the help of the community.

Hope to see you soon,

Monday, September 27th

Good Morning Everyone!

Thank you to all of our visitors the past few days who helped us celebrate our Enchanted Autumn Gold weekend.  We hope you enjoyed our themed days of pumpkin, corn, and apple that coincided with the changing aspen leaves.  If you had a chance to try our new Apple Carrot soup yesterday and have some feedback, we'd love to hear it.  We're currently debating whether or not to add this soup to our regular rotation of soups and we'd greatly appreciate any comments you may have about it.  Feel free to send us a quick email at baldpateinn@aol.com if you have any feedback about this new soup.

Also, a winner has been picked for our Enchanted Autumn Gold drawing.  Belinda Heeden was the lucky winner and will be receiving a gift certificate to use at the Baldpate Inn.

Soups of the day: White Chili and Cream of Mushroom

Muffins of the day: Lemon Ginger and Banana Butterscotch

Even as we move into the later stages of our season, we still highly encourage reservations.  We have been quite busy the past few days so give us a call or visit our website or Facebook page to make a reservation and ensure we'll have a table for you.

Take care,

Summer Enchanted Evenings Tomorrow Night!

Good Morning Everyone!

It is starting out to be a beautiful day here at the Baldpate Inn!  Come enjoy the views and stop by for some lunch or dinner in our dining room.  Today we have our Red Chili and Chicken Rice soups.  Served alongside will be our Cranberry Nut and Trail Mix muffins.

Tomorrow night we will be hosting our Summer Enchanted Evenings lecture series.  In August 1928, Hawaii held a week-long world's fair-type celebration to honor the English explorer James Cook, as well as highlight the islands' growing importance in Pacific affairs. Little of importance resulted from the actual event, but one commemorative item, produced in limited quantities, is now the most valuable 20th century half-dollar coin ever minted in the United States. The few times it shows up on the auction market, this coin commands upwards of $100,000 from collectors. Estes Park is lucky in that one example of this coin, the so-called "Captain Cook half" or "Hawaiian half", resides in a nearby museum, and doubly lucky the only true living expert on the celebration of the coin will be at the Baldpate Inn on Wednesday. Come hear John Meissner talk about another wild adventure as he details the search for surviving specimens of the sandblast proof Captain Cook half.

We hope to see you there!

I'm certainly excited for the weather this afternoon!  Highs in the low 80's are in the forecast today will make it feel like the middle of July again here in the Estes Valley.  While it's been chilly in the evenings, the afternoons have still been quite mild and it makes it hard to believe we're almost halfway through September.

Soups of the Day: White Chili and Broccoli Cheese

Muffins of the Day: Oatmeal Blues and Mandarin Orange

As always, we encourage reservations all throughout the day.  Visit our website or Facebook page to make reservations or give us a call at 970-586-5397.

Chilly Morning

Good Morning Everyone!

It's a chilly morning here at the Baldpate Inn today.  Temperatures last night reached down into the 30's last evening and our lobby fireplace will probably be roaring all day.

Unique views of the Estes Valley were seen this morning from our dining room windows.  Smoke from the two nearby wildfires filled the valley overnight and the smoke has been slowly dissipating throughout the morning.  A small fire across town in the Cow Creek valley and another larger fire south of us near Boulder should be slowed by lesser winds today.

Soups of the Day: Beef Stew and Tomato Rice

Muffins of the Day: Oatmeal Blueberry and Zucchini Dill

Reservations as always recommended and can be made online or by calling us at 970-586-5397.

Happy Labor Day!

Good Morning,

Hopefully everyone is enjoying their three day weekend so far.  The weather has been gorgeous all weekend and looks like it is not going to let us down today.  It has been a busy weekend here at the Baldpate!  Don't forget that we now close at 7:00 PM and we always appreciate calling ahead to make reservations for lunch or dinner at 970-586-5397.

Today we are serving Cream of Mushroom and White Chili soup along with Poppy Seed and Golden Sunshine muffins.  Have a craving for something sweet?  Our delicious homemade pie will definitely take care of that craving.

If you think every long-standing business and residence in Estes has always had the same telephone number, think again. 1960 was the first year Estes Park telephone owners were assigned seven-digit telephone numbers (what we are all familiar with today), which was actually early compared to other northern Colorado towns. Join the Estes Park History Rescue Project for an interactive investigation of the 1960 Estes Park telephone book (we have one of the few known copies in the United States) compared to our modern telephone directory, including a look at some of the “pioneers” who still have the same telephone number 50 years later.

Sunny Sunday

Good Morning Everyone!

Another gorgeous day here in Estes Park today and what a wonderful day to continue with the Labor Day weekend. On my walk this morning, I noticed even more yellow leaves along the driveway, a definite sign that the fall season is in full swing. One by one, the millions of aspen leaves in the Estes Valley will be losing their green color and will eventually pepper the mountain sides with golden yellow in a few more weeks.

Soups of the Day: Cowboy Buffalo Stew and Pumpkin Curry

Muffins of the Day: Banana Butterscotch and Lemon Ginger

As a reminder, we will be moving to our new fall hours beginning tomorrow evening. Our last seating will now be at 7:00 PM during the week instead of 8:00 PM as it has been throughout the summer.

As always, we always recommend reservations, especially with the holiday weekend upon us. Give us a call at 970-586-5397 or visit our website to make a reservation.

Muffins of the Day: Blueberry and All Bran

As a reminder to our followers, we will be closing our restaurant at 3:00 PM this afternoon due to a special event this evening.  If you would like to make lunch reservations, give us a call at 970-586-5397 or visit our website to make an online reservation.

Autumn is in the air!

Good morning Baldpate friends,

Well if its chilly outside and Lois is writing the blog,  you gotta know we are moving into fall!  The crowds seem to be gone during the week, which is just as well as lots of my summer staff have returned to school.  The great news is that the crew that remains is anxious to do their best to make your visit spectacular!  We do still recommend you call if you plan to come up for a meal,  I've been guessing wrong pretty much all summer on how busy we will be, so we want to prepare the best we can for you!   970.586.6151

Soups today are  White Chili and Pumpkin Curry which pair well with our Oatmeal Blueberry and Zucchini Dill Muffins.

We are looking forward to tonight's 7 PM Summer Enchanted Evening with John Meissner presenting "What's wrong with this picture?"  His talks are always fun and informative, so make plans to join us!

Have a great day!

Warmly,   Lois
Innkeeper Chef who is too blessed to be stressed!
